“The Texas Legislature’s Conference Committee for the state’s budget voted Friday to include $17.4 million to establish a school of veterinary medicine at Texas Tech in Amarillo.

“The full budget will go to the House and Senate to concur on the changes to the budget before it heads to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk for his signature, according to a news release from the full delegation of Panhandle-South Plains lawmakers. The amount reflects what had originally been in the House Appropriations bill for fiscal years 2020-2021 – a significant increase from the approximately $4 million in the initially proposed Senate budget, according to previous A-J Media reporting.”
